Did you miss me?

You did? Aw, thanks. I missed you too. Thanks for letting me know.

See how easy that was? It is like the easiest to say nice things.

It can be so encouraging, so motivating, so day-changing for both the receiver of the kind words and the giver.

Want to know the easiest way to make the world a better place? Say OUT LOUD the nice thoughts you think in your head.

Do you remember when email first started and people would send those forwards around with things like "use the good china" and "give a stranger a compliment?" Well, I took those forwards to heart and what I got out of it was a nicely set table and compliments tourettes - the compulsion to express nice thoughts out loud.

If I think something nice, I HAVE to say it or it will drive me nuts. If I like you or something about you, you are going to know. If I am having fun with you, I am going to tell you. If I like you or love you, you will have no doubt about it to the point where you might want to tell me to shut up.

When I was growing up, my grandfather had a lot of health issues and every time I saw him, I never knew if it was going to be the last time I saw him. Because of this, from a young age, I became conscious of never wanting to regret not telling someone how much they meant to me or, for example, just how much I like their eyelashes (see my book, chapter 40).

I think it would be just awful to wish eternally for the opportunity to tell someone the nice things you thought and felt about them because you didn't say them when you had the chance.

I LOVE saying nice things to people. And, ahem, I love hearing them too.

Having someone say a kind word or a compliment to me can make my whole day.

SO, here's my request (on behalf of mankind): if you think a nice thought, say it OUT LOUD to the person you are thinking it about. Be aware of your nice thoughts. Give the compliment.

And if you want to be really good at it? Be specific.

If you are complimenting me on on my personality, don't tell me I am phenomenal woman (duh, I know that already). Instead tell me how I am phenomenal. Give me examples. What did I do or say that made you think that?

Because if you don't tell me, how am I supposed to KNOW?

Right?

So, today I challenge you - say something nice to someone - a stranger, a friend, a co-worker, someone you love. See the power you have to make their face light up.

Report back to me! I want to hear about how you made someone's day!

    2. Dear Country Boy, I am so glad you let the girl know she means the world to you. I am sorry she snapped at you! That certainly isn't a very nice response to such nice words. I'm glad you tried again though! Was "thank you" all she said? Do you know if she likes you back? If she does, my advice would be to keep the sweetness coming - if she does like you, she probably can't get enough of it.

    1. Aw, thanks John Kruger. Sorry for my absence. I hadn't been too inspired and I don't like to post for the sake of just posting because then my audience will lose faith that I am worth their clicks. I have some in the backlog though - stay tuned!
